After years of playing football, the wear and tear started to take its toll on my knees. It was during my time as a starting running back for a nationally ranked university that I began to experience sharp pain in my right knee, right under my knee cap. I felt it every time I tried climbing stairs or doing anything that required me to bend my leg at a 90 degree angle. In addition to being an important part of my overall quality of life, this type of mobility was critical to my performance as a running back. On the recommendation of my team doctor, I took different medications and even had arthroscopic knee surgery (knee scope). Fourteen years later, I was still living with this pain.
